General Information

Airframe and powerplant maintenance of aircraft is possible only with top level education. The aircraft that make fast and safe transportation real, are at the top point of the application areas of advanced technical information and technical equipment. Therefore the laboratories and workshops of the department are established for training technical personnel for airframe and powerplant maintenance. The trainees of the department will be studying on maintenance of airframe, powerplant, propeller and other sub-systems of the aircraft with modern technics and procedures.

Furthermore, the trainees will practice their basic knowledge on hydraulics, pneumatics, gas turbines, piston engines, landing systems etc. on an aircraft. After the basic theoretical courses trainees will mostly be practicing in laboratories and workshops.
The fields of study of the department are (1) airplanes, (2) helicopters, (3) unmanned aerial vehicles. Afterwards the fields of studies are divided as gas turbine engines and piston engines. After having completed the basic theoretical training, the students will be trained mostly in laboratories and workshops, and they will do internship. After the completion of the internship the trainees will be graduated and may start to work for maintenance organizations.

The Department of Airframe and Powerplant Maintenance of Atılım University started to accept students in the academic year 2011-2012 and started trainings in the academic year of 2011-2012. The students start their 4 year training after succeeding the 1 year English prepatory class. The course syllabuses of the department are prepared to satisfy the needs of the civil aviation sector and by regarding the demands of Directorate General of Civil Aviation and international standards. In the departmental courses, besides the theoretical and pure academic teaching, the emphasis is on training students with the ability to inquire, innovate, ask questions, think analytically, and find solutions to technical problems.

The application-oriented lectures and workshops starting with third year classes are provided in a  aircraft hangar at the Ankara Esenboğa Airport.

In the upcoming junior and senior years, such activities will be continued as part of the curriculum with other technical maintenance and services corporations working in the İstanbul Atatürk Airport as well as the Sabiha Gökçen International Airport. In addition to these, the students will have the opportunity to complete an internship program that includes two summers, each lasting 40 days, in a number of civil and military corporations .
